The Vacheron Constantin Overseas is legendary among watch fans, but it flies under the radar compared to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. Even so, the world’s second-oldest watchmaker produces an incredible sports watch with an integrated bracelet and gorgeous design. Let’s take a closer look.
The current third-generation Overseas 4500V comes in a 41mm case size and an integrated bracelet design, giving it a larger, more imposing look on the wrist. Its 150m/500ft water resistance rating means it can go almost anywhere, and the 60-hour power reserve makes it super convenient to use throughout the week.
Vacheron Constantin’s men’s collection of Overseas watches is available in several variations, including chronograph models, perpetual calendar models, ultra-thin versions, and more. Depending on the setup, the watch may have a date complication, while perpetual calendar models are available with standard or skeleton dials. There are also several dial colors, including silver, black, and blue.
The Overseas can be had with an ultra-thin case. Vacheron Constantin recently released variants that are just 8.1 mm thick, and the company includes three straps in the box, significantly improving its value. The watchmaker moved to transparent case backs for most of its timepieces, so its highly decorated in-house movement is visible.
There’s not much not to love here, but it’s important to note that the Overseas’ unique integrated bracelet design limits the options for customization. Vacheron Constantin includes a second strap in the box with the standard bracelet, so you’ve got a leather option, but it’s not easy to find replacements online.
While Vacheron Constantin may not be at the top of everyone’s list, the brand’s age, prestige, and detailed watchmaking should put them on your radar. The Overseas is a fantastic alternative to the more exclusive and expensive models from AP and Patek, and there’s enough variety in the catalog to keep everyone entertained.
