ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DEEPSEA 44
Rolex Deepsea has been engineered for one purpose – conquest of the ocean. Ultra-resistant and waterproof to the depths of 12,800 feet (3,900 meters). This year’s model continues this tradition with a new generation of Rolex Deepsea 44. Unique characteristics of this timepiece is a result of years of collaboration with diving professionals. Rolex Deepsea uses 904L stainless steel, the same superalloy that is used in the aerospace, hi-technology and a chemical industry where maximum strength and resistance to corrosion is essential. It’s features 44 mm case with redesigned sides and lugs. Resized Oyster bracelet is a perfect blend of design and function is be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with enlarged Oysterlock folding safety clasp and the Glidelock extension system with the Fliplock extension link. Two-color gradient dial symbolizes James Cameron’s historic journey to the deepest place on earth: the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The Helium Escape Valve
Professional divers when heading for the surface after a deep saturation dive, must spend time in a decompression chamber, where they breathe a gas mixture containing helium. The tiny molecules of helium, infiltrate everywhere in the chamber, also penetrating the watch. During decompression, the helium is unable to escape from the waterproof case quickly enough, creating a pressure differential that could force the crystal out of the watch case. Rolex engineers created a gas escape valve fitted with a spring: it opens when the difference in pressure between the inside and outside of the watch reaches 3 to 5 bars, allowing the helium to escape, thereby protecting the watch.
Ringlock System
The Rolex-patented Ringlock System case architecture allows the Rolex Deepsea to resist the colossal pressure exerted by water at a depth of 12,800 feet (3,900 meters). The Ringlock System is composed of three elements: a domed 5.5 mm-thick sapphire crystal, a high-performance nitrogen-alloyed stainless steel ring positioned inside the middle case of the watch, and a case back in Oystersteel and grade 5 titanium.
Rolex Glidelock and Fliplock
The Rolex Glidelock fine-adjustment system, developed and patented by Rolex, allows the bracelet length to be increased by some 20 mm in increments of approximately 2 mm. The Fliplock extension link is a fold-out link that allows the bracelet on the Rolex Deepsea to be extended by 26 mm. Combined, these systems allow the watch to be worn over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick.
CERTIFICATION
All Rolex timepieces carry the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that each watch has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by the brand in its own laboratories according to its own criteria, which exceed watchmaking norms and standards. The certification applies to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, self-winding and waterproof. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer after casing is of the order of −2 /+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
THE MOVEMENT
The calibre 3235 is a self-winding mechanical movement, that is at the forefront of the art of watchmaking. Featuring 14 patents, it has been developed and manufactured entirely by Rolex. It incorporates a new Chronergy escapement movement (patented by Rolex), which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. With a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, it powers date function along with hour, minute and seconds hands. Made of nickel-phosphorus it offers convenience and reliability combined with fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic interference.
