IWC IW3777 PILOT’S WATCH CHRONOGRAPH
Easily recognizable the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph has a sophisticated, classic and timeless design which is associates with the brand itself. The craftsmanship of each element is so expert that this particular incarnation of a pilot’s watch looks and feels like a refined luxury.
The watch is water-resistant to 6 bar (approximately 60m) and is sold with a black calfskin strap from Santoni. The stainless-steel case is highly polished with the beautiful rounded edges and thin bezel. The sapphire crystal is slightly domed and has anti reflective coating on both sides. The chronograph two push buttons are polished and do not have a screw-in function. Finally, the polished screw-in crown has the usual IWC logo. When on the wrist, this watch makes a statement with it’s case being 43mm in diameter and 15mm in height.
THE DIAL
The dials of all IWC Pilot’s Watches has been inspired by the cockpit design of Junkers JU-52. The model IW3777 is not an exception. It is very clearly organized with an excellent legibility even under the most demanding conditions. The subtle use of red on the dial is restrained only to two small parts: the red triangle at the date and the second’s hand on a small second counter sub dial.
The date counter is positioned at three o’clock mark and it has been inspired by the altimeter found in a cockpit of a plane. The seconds sub dial has IWC logo and is located at nine o’clock with a red running hand. The minute counter is located at twelve o’clock and has the same look and size as an hour counter at six o’clock. All three sub dials has a beautifully crafted radial etching, which is a nice detail on part of IWC design team.
Lume has been applied to the minute and hour hands, as well as on the four major points on the watch (12, 3, 6, and 9 o’ clock). This makes telling time in low light conditions a breeze.
THE STRAP
The black alligator strap comes with two keepers and an attached tang buckle. The width of the strap starts with 21 mm at the lugs and then it generally tapers to 18 mm. When on the wrist, the strap is almost flush with the lug. The leather feels very soft. The craftsmanship of stitching and polish of a tang buckle are great. Overall the strap looks very stylish and feels very comfortable.
THE MOVEMENT
Inside of IW3777 is a calibre 79320, an automatic self-winding chronograph movement. It has a power reserve for 44 hours. Interesting thing about the movement that it is protected from external magnetic fields by the soft-iron inner case.
