A.LANGE & SOHNE SAXONIA DUAL TIME
Watches and timepieces are important traveler’s gadgets. A long time ago when A. Lange & Sohne was only making pocket watches, they would occasionally put together a timepiece with multiple dials, two watches in one so to speak, so the traveler would be able to track time at home and at the destination. Today travel became so cheap and accessible, that many people are finding themselves looking for a traveler’s watch. As a result of such a huge demand, the market of travel watches has exploded.
A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Dual Time watch is one of the top choices for people who love to travel in style. The case is measured 38.5mm in diameter. This diameter seems to be A. Lange & Sohne lucky number, as the Lange 1, the Saxonia Annual Calendar, the Langematik Perpetual or the 1815 all have a case with these same dimensions. The Saxonia Dual Time is just 9.1mm thick and is offered in 18k pink or white gold, with matching hands and hour markers on the dial.
When someone is looking for a traveler’s watch, it is advisable to look for a timepiece featuring a dual time, easy to read dial and ability to simple change time. A.Lange & Sohne Saxonia Dual Time perfectly fits this advice. Even the box is made with traveling in mind, it looks more like a traveling case rather than presentation box.
THE DIAL
The Dial on A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Dual Time, is simple, elegant and it has nothing more than a two sub-dials on it’s face. The large sub-dial is positioned at six o’clock mark and design to tell the seconds. The dial that positioned at twelve o’clock is design to tell the hours at home. It color coded to tell the difference between day and night and it uses blue hour hand. Interestingly that both hour dial and main dial are using the same minute hand. Main dial hands and hour markers are beautifully crafted and covered with gold. Right in the middle, across the face “A. Lange & Sohne” name is stamped on the dial with the small “Glashutte in Sachsen” written underneath, pointing down to the town where watches are made.
I personally love, how simple and accurate it is to change time zones on this watch. In order to set the time, all you have to do is to push on the upper left pusher to jump ahead one hour, or to push lower left pusher to jump back one hour, that’s it!
The strap is beautifully stitched and made out of a high quality crocodile skin.
THE MOVEMENT
On the back of the watch you can see a beautiful German craftsmanship at it’s best. The back panel is covered by the transparent crystal reveling well crafted calibre L086.2 – automatic movement that has been design in house by A. Lange & Sohne and has a 72-hour power reserve. It has 268 components and features red rubies and Glashutte-style blue screws. A large “A. Lange & Sohne” name is stamped in gold. Côtes de Genève striped finish along with perlée circular graining are making it of the one best looking movements on the market.
